Subramaniam Iswaran was imprisoned on 7 October after he begged guilty to approving presents well worth greater than S$403,000 ($300,000; \u00a3240,000) while in workplace, as well as blocking the course of justice.<\/p>\n

Iswaran’s 12-month jail sentence was much longer compared to what both his defence group and district attorneys looked for throughout his test.<\/p>\n

Throughout his sentencing in October, the judge said that public authorities such as Iswaran should also be seen as having actually “greater culpability in abusing their position to obtain valuable presents”.<\/p>\n

Iswaran is the first political office-holder in Singapore to be attempted in court in the previous half a century.<\/p>\n
